A whole new world
Hi all
I thought a quick note was in order. If only to mention that I've moved to a new role as the Radiation Safety Officer at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney, in case anyone missed my earlier annoucements. So far, it has been very interesting. Hospitals are slightly different to mines. One particular event that I wish to note is the adoption by the NSW EPA of a number of Codes of Practice from the Radiation Protection Series under the NSW Radiation Control Act,by gazettal on 9 April 2010. This occurence was a first for me, having previously only experience adoption of Codes from the National Directory on Radiation Protection as conditions on a registration or licence. A number of the adopted Codes of Practice relate to the hospital and that will keep me off the streets for a few months.
But it was also heartwarming to note that the NSW EPA also adopted the Code of Practice on Radiation Protection in Mining and Mineral Processing, despite the prohibition on their Radiation Control Act from applying to radioactive ore being mined or treated. Perhap this occurence points to a future lifting of the ban on uranium exploration and mining in NSW?
